On-street bays in Harrogate charge on Sundays from 10am to 6pm. Current tariffs for every council car park in the district, plus permits at £44 a year.

The trap in Harrogate is Sunday. On-street pay and display bays in the town centre charge from 10am to 6pm on Sundays, and 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. Plenty of towns stop charging at the weekend. Harrogate does not.

The second trap is that the prices on this page are higher than the ones printed in North Yorkshire Council’s own Harrogate Off Street Parking Places Order 2025. An hour in the Victoria multi-storey was £1.80 in that order. It is £2.00 in the council’s live car park directory today. Twenty-four hours went from £17.20 to £19.00. Every figure below was taken from that directory on 26 August 2026.

On-street in Harrogate town centre

The town centre splits into an inner and an outer zone.

Time Inner zone Outer zone
30 minutes £1.30 £1.00
1 hour £2.40 £2.10
1 hour 30 £3.60 £3.10
2 hours £4.70 £4.10
2 hours 30 £5.90 £5.10
3 hours £7.10 £6.10

Three hours is the cap on-street. Charges apply 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday, per the council’s on-street parking page for Harrogate and Knaresborough.

A few streets are short-stay only, at 90p for 20 minutes and £1.70 for 40 minutes:

  • 20 minutes maximum: Cambridge Crescent and Princes Street
  • 40 minutes maximum: part of Cheltenham Crescent, and Oxford Street

West Park, 4 hours max £1.00 £4.10 n/a 50
Station Parade, 4 hours max £2.40 £9.40 n/a 25

West Park multi-storey is the cheapest long stay in the town centre by a distance. Nine pounds for 24 hours against £19.00 at Victoria and £20.40 at Jubilee, for a car park on Tower Street a few minutes’ walk from the same shops. It closes at 9.30pm, which is the catch.

Some other things worth knowing before you pick one:

  • Victoria and Jubilee are locked overnight and charge £60 to release a car. Victoria shuts at 7.30pm Monday to Saturday and 7pm on Sunday. Jubilee runs to 11pm Sunday to Wednesday and 11.59pm Thursday to Saturday. West Park multi-storey also charges the £60 release fee.
  • Dragon Road closes without warning when the Harrogate Convention Centre needs it for exhibition traffic. The council signs it in the town centre when that happens. It has an evening rate of £1.40 in after 6pm and out by midnight, and free all-day coach parking in marked bays from 6am to 10pm.
  • Odeon and Park View charge until midnight, not 6pm. After 6pm, Odeon cinema customers can get parking vouchers from the box office.
  • Hornbeam Park is free, all day, every day, 115 spaces, with 12 electric vehicle charge points.

The two Harrogate Convention Centre car parks on Springfield Avenue are priced for events, not shopping: £6 for up to three hours, £10 for six, £15 for 12 and £20 for 24, with a £5 evening rate from 5pm for performances at the Convention Centre and Royal Hall. Car park 1 has a 2 metre height limit.

Southlands, Pateley Bridge £0.80 £1.70 £2.90 64
Nidd Walk, Pateley Bridge n/a £1.00 £2.10 66

Three genuine traps in that table:

  • Conyngham Hall in Knaresborough has two tariffs. From 1 March to 31 October an hour is £1.40 and the maximum is £5.90. From 1 November to 28 February the same hour is £0.70 and the maximum is £2.70. At 355 spaces it is the largest council car park in the district outside Harrogate, with four coach bays.
  • Knaresborough Market Place charges every day from 8am to 6pm, bank holidays included. The first 20 minutes are free, but you still have to get a ticket. After that it runs 70p for 30 minutes up to £1.70 for two hours.
  • Ripon Market Place is shut to parking for most of Thursday. It opens 6pm to midnight that day, against 24 hours every other day of the week.

Free car parks: Hornbeam Park in Harrogate (115 spaces), Blossomgate in Ripon (18 spaces, four charge points) and Park Road in Pateley Bridge (23 spaces).

Several car parks only charge between set hours, which means they are free outside them. Cathedral in Ripon, Waterside in Knaresborough and both Pateley Bridge sites charge 8am to 6pm only.

Permits

Prices are from the council’s Harrogate area permits pages. There are permit zones in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and Pateley Bridge.

  • Resident’s permit: £44 a year. It is half price if you are 60 or over, hold a Blue Badge, get Guaranteed Pension Credit or Jobseeker’s Allowance, or get Universal Credit with no take home pay. You will be asked for proof of that at every renewal.
  • Visitor permits: £10 per pack of 25 credits. One credit lets a visitor park all day.
  • Business permit: £181.50 a year, for owners of businesses, hotels and guesthouses who do not live on the premises.
  • Resident attendant permit: free, for residents who need substantial and regular care, to give to carers when they visit.
  • Waivers, to park where you otherwise could not: £20 for one day, £5 a day after that up to a week, £50 for a week, £35 a week thereafter.

Season tickets for the car parks are separate. All-times, all-day monthly rates run from £36.30 at St Marygate in Ripon, York Place in Knaresborough and Conyngham Hall, up to £217.80 at the Jubilee multi-storey. West Park multi-storey is £72.60 a month, which is again the value option in Harrogate.

The council has moved permits onto a new online system. Old log-ins do not work and you have to create a new account, though existing physical permits stay valid until they expire.

Blue badge

Parking is free for Blue Badge holders in the council’s pay and display car parks. Twenty-three of the 28 Harrogate-area car parks in the directory say so outright, and the other three, Hornbeam Park, Blossomgate and Park Road, are free for everyone anyway.

The exception is worth knowing. Neither Harrogate Convention Centre car park mentions free Blue Badge parking, and both are priced as event car parks. Check at the barrier rather than assuming.

Motorcycles are free in most council car parks but not all. Fisher Street in Knaresborough, Nidd Walk in Pateley Bridge and the West Park multi-storey list only disabled users as free.

A Blue Badge costs £10 to apply for or renew, and the council warns that unauthorised websites have been charging people £50 for the same application. Apply through the council’s Blue Badge page. Delivery takes up to 14 working days by second class post, so renew about 30 days before your current badge runs out.

Parking at Harrogate station

The station car park is run by Northern, not the council, and its prices are nothing like the council’s.

  • Up to 2 hours, no return: £1.70
  • Up to 4 hours, no return: £3.30
  • Daily: £6.60
  • Weekly: £26.40
  • Monthly: £101.00
  • Annual: £1,056.00

There are 117 spaces, six of them accessible, and the station page notes there is no CCTV. Payment is by RingGo, code 5711.

For an occasional trip the station is the cheaper option: £6.60 a day against £9.00 for 24 hours at the West Park multi-storey. For a five-day-a-week commuter it is the wrong way round. A year at the station is £1,056.00. An all-times, all-day season ticket at the West Park multi-storey is £784.10, which is £271.90 less.
