The Bank of England's Yorkshire deputy agent and DSC Accountants brief Harrogate firms on the Budget at The Crown Hotel, 9 November, 5.30pm. How to book.
A senior Bank of England official will talk Harrogate business owners through the economy after the Autumn Budget next Monday, 9 November, at Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce’s annual finance meeting.
Paul Mount, the Bank’s Deputy Agent for Yorkshire and the Humber, is the main speaker. John Garbutt, a director at DSC Accountants, will give practical advice on what the Budget means for firms. The meeting runs from 5.30pm to 8pm at The Crown Hotel on Crown Place.
What the speakers will cover
According to the Chamber, Mr Mount will explain the Bank’s part in keeping the economy stable, the factors behind its recent policy decisions and its plans from here. He will also give the Bank’s outlook for UK inflation, growth and the jobs market.
Mr Garbutt will set out his reading of the Autumn Budget for local businesses. The Chamber says members are weighing how tax threshold freezes, other fiscal changes and wider cost pressures will affect their operations, investment and hiring into the new year.
After the talks there is an open question session, where business owners can raise problems specific to their own sector.
“Look beyond the political noise”
Phill Holdsworth, President of Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce, said national coverage of a Budget rarely matches what firms in the district are dealing with.
“Following any major fiscal announcement, national headlines can feel overwhelming and often disconnected from the day-to-day realities of running a business,” he said.
“What our members need right now is clarity, certainty and a sensible long-term perspective. Having the Bank of England join us alongside DSC Accountants gives our local business community an exceptional opportunity to look beyond the political noise, understand the trajectory of the wider economy, and plan for the year ahead with confidence.”
