The council has been asked if 190 homes on Knaresborough Road, Littlethorpe, need a full environmental assessment. This is not yet a planning application.
A proposal for 190 homes on land at Littlethorpe, just over a mile south of Ripon city centre, is now on the council’s planning register. It is not yet a planning application, and nothing has been approved.
The request, reference 26/07141/SCREEN, was received on 21 October. It asks North Yorkshire Council for a screening opinion. That is a ruling on whether the scheme needs a full environmental impact assessment before an application goes in.
What is proposed
The register’s description covers land on Knaresborough Road, in Littlethorpe parish. It lists:
- 190 homes
- public open space
- a locally equipped area for play
- landscaping and associated infrastructure
- earthworks and biodiversity enhancements on the southern land parcels, numbered 2 and 3
The site is in the Masham and Fountains council division.
What we could not check
The council’s planning register would not connect when we tried it on 5 November. These details come from PlanIt’s copy of the register, last updated on 3 November.
That means we have not read the request document itself. We cannot yet tell you who is behind the scheme, how many homes would be affordable, or how the site would be reached. We will add those once the register is back.
What happens next
- Decision on the screening request: the register gives a target date of 11 November, and the Chief Planner decides it.
- Comments: the register lists a consultation period from 30 October to 23 November. It showed no comments so far.
- A full application: this would come later, with its own public consultation.
A screening opinion decides how much environmental evidence is needed. It says nothing on whether homes should be built there.
What it means for you
- If you live in Littlethorpe or south Ripon, this is an early sign of what may come. You can follow the reference on the register, or comment on it here.
- If you have views on the homes themselves, a full application is where they would be weighed, once one is lodged.
